This is Lionel Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or, which he received on Monday in Paris.
The top player for Paris Saint-Germain was honored with the most prestigious trophy in French football at the 65th annual presentation, but Ronaldo seems to think that his opponent is more deserving.
This week, a fan account raged about how Ronaldo was cheated out of the Ballon d’Or, and Ronaldo himself indicated his agreement in the comments.
Fan Says Ronaldo Should Have Won the Ballon d’Or
Upon hearing that Lionel Messi had won the Ballon d’Or, a big Instagram Ronaldo fan account named @cr7.o lendario responded by posting their thoughts on the matter to their followers.
The article began by detailing Ronaldo’s impressive accomplishments this year before concluding, “Regardless of his age, [Ronaldo] is a player who continues to do miracles and impress the world most often.”
Then, he continued by arguing that Ronaldo should have won the Ballon d’Or instead of Messi:
The winner is “who?” when compared to Cristiano. Since Cristiano Ronaldo departed Real Madrid, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has struggled to find the back of the net in the club’s most important matches. Messi has only won the Copa do Ei with Barcelona.
The Instagrammer went on to detail Messi’s failure to accomplish anything notable before concluding:
It would take a Ronaldo who is undeniable to the tune of 300 percent for him to win this prize. Even if you score the most beautiful goal of the year, win every club championship, set every scoring record, and score a hat trick in the World Cup, it won’t matter.
Messi is the complete antithesis of that. Even if he has a terrible year, the voters will still find a way to reward him. Steal. Dirt. Shame. Just a shame,” he said before adding:
Those with sufficient intelligence can determine who should be told the truth. Being happy and proud about something that you didn’t earn is a false feeling. C27 will remain the best in history regardless of any accolades it may receive.

Conversation with Ronaldo on ‘factos’
After seeing the fan’s Instagram, Ronaldo himself commented his approval.
In his response, he wrote the Spanish and Portuguese words for “facts” (Factos) and added a thumbs-up and eyes emoji.
The Manchester United player appeared to agree that he earned the Ballon d’Or by making this comment, which was meant as a subtle jab at his competitor, Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo Claims that He Doesn’t Aspire to Win the Ballon D’or or Any Other Sports Award
Ronaldo has stated in the past that winning more Ballon d’Ors isn’t his primary goal, despite commenting on “Factos” and believing he deserved the honors.
French editor Pascal Ferre said to the New York Times on Friday, days before the Ballon d’Or presentation, “Ronaldo has only one objective, and that is to retire with more Ballons d’Or than Messi.”
Ronaldo responded negatively on Instagram, stating, “Pascal Ferre lied, he used my name to promote himself and the publication he works for.”
He stated, “It is intolerable that the person responsible for awarding such a prestigious medal could lie in this way, with extreme disrespect for someone who has always revered France Football and the Ballon d’Or.
My ultimate professional goal is to lead the clubs I play for and the national team of my country to a series of championships at the national and international levels. My lifelong goal is to have my name immortalized as one of the game’s all-time greats.
