In PEOPLE’s 2023 Beautiful Issue, Selma Blair sent a heartfelt open letter to her younger self.

50-year-old Blair, along with fellow actresses Eva Longoria, Rosario Dawson, Christina Ricci, and Jessica Williams, wrote a letter to her younger self, filled with advice and support.

Actress from “The Ordinary World” penned:

I understand your anxiety about entering adulthood. You worry that you won’t have the skills necessary to function as an adult, but you’ll be fine. Don’t stress out so much about what might happen.

“This picture of you at this age, taken with REO Speedwagon playing in the background, brings back such fond memories,” she said.

That inexplicable element baffled your reasoning. That’s what we’re banking on. Replace your worry with optimism. Proceed with the text. Be a daily writer. Have faith in yourself. Just be honest. Observe. Things are looking up. And dreadful events. You’ll have to go through all of that to find your footing and keep going. You deserve to be loved.

The actress finished off her message by saying, “P.S. You purchased yourself the horse you always would hope for. Mr. Nibbles is his name. Many things will become possible for you. Don’t stress out. Take a deep sigh. …and let out a big sigh. Proceed past the uncovered glass.

The native of Michigan was diagnosed with MS, a disease of the central nervous system, in October 2018.

Blair, who uses a cane for movement due to her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, was featured in the May 2023 issue of British Vogue and appeared on the cover of the magazine.

“I have an emotional and physical attachment to the cane,” she told the magazine. As the speaker puts it, “It’s like an extension of me.”
