Mark Capps, a Grammy-winning recording engineer, was tragically shot and killed by police at his home in Nashville on Thursday. The incident occurred after Capps was accused of holding his wife and stepdaughter at gunpoint in their home and threatening to kill them if they tried to contact anyone for help.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Capps woke up his wife and stepdaughter at 3 a.m., held them at gunpoint, and refused to let them leave, causing them to fear for their lives.

When Capps fell asleep, the women were able to escape and fled to the Hermitage precinct, where they reported the incident to the authorities. Arrest warrants were issued for Capps, charging him with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault. In response, three SWAT officers were sent to Capps’ home to apprehend him.

When the officers approached the house, Capps reportedly opened the front door with a pistol in hand. One of the officers perceived Capps as posing an immediate, imminent threat and fired, causing Capps to die at the scene.

Throughout his career, Capps worked with numerous top artists including Alabama, the Dixie Chicks, Neil Diamond, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Brooks & Dunn, and Barry Manilow. He was a highly respected and talented recording engineer, known for his expertise and skills in the industry.

In addition to his successful career, Capps was also part of a well-established music family in Nashville. His father, Jimmy Capps, was a legendary Grand Ole Opry guitarist and Musicians Hall of Famer, who had a long and successful career as a studio guitarist.
