The connection between Daemon and Rhaenyra, according to Emma D’Arcy in House of the Dragon, is “a grooming situation.”
It’s absurd to think that a teenage girl could in any way be capable of giving her consent to such a sexual encounter. actor uttered
In a recent interview, House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy discussed the disparity in authority between Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
In episode six of the Game of Thrones prequel, D’Arcy assumes control in place of Rhaenyra, at which point the fictitious world’s timeline advances by ten years.
A passionate, incestuous relationship between the princess, who was portrayed by Milly Alcock when she was in her twenties, and her uncle Daemon (Matt Smith), was established in these first five episodes.
In an interview with The Independent, Emma D’Arcy claimed that the early relationship between the two was “basically a grooming scenario” because Rhaenyra was only about 15 at the time and Daemon was already 31.
The actress, who uses they/them pronouns, stated that the notion that a teenage girl is in any way capable of consenting to that sexual encounter is a problem. In that connection, power cannot possibly be allocated equally.
D’Arcy also brought up the subject of the character’s recasting, which was lamented by spectators because Alcock soon gained a following.
It’s a challenging time to interact with an audience, they added. They only understand me after losing Milly, so when they first meet me, they are grieving the loss of the person they just spent five hours with.
They continued, laughing nervously, “I’m… Yes, I am aware of it.
While cast members Smith and Paddy Considine recently hailed the personnel switch, many have been miffed by the shift.
It was actually wonderful, according to Smith, who also thought their work was excellent. It provided you with a totally different framework in which to play off the age issue.
Yes, I adored it, Considine said. They had the same character, but they each had a different energy, which I enjoyed.
On Monday, September 29, at 2 AM on Sky Atlantic in the UK, House of the Dragon will resume before a replay at 9 PM the same day. Additionally, you may watch it NOW.
