Jack White’s podcast chats with Rick Rubin are interrupted by Neil Young.
The three talked about Young’s lengthy career and the writing of new music.
In the most recent episode of Rick Rubin’s Broken Record podcast, Jack White and Neil Young were having a conversation when Neil Young interrupted.
White and Rubin had been talking for about an hour and a half when Young, who had been in the same Malibu studio recording new songs, barged in and started talking as well. White compared Young to The Rolling Stones and praised the singer for being able to sustain a long career in the music business.
It’s wonderful that you guys can sort of demonstrating that, White said. “I remember when I was 12 and The Rolling Stones were 40 and everyone was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ and it’s so nice that you guys are able to establish it.” Young said, “If they got the spirit, they’ll be cranking stuff out, because what else can we do?” attributing his career endurance to his “spirit.”
Young continued by revealing that he had spent three weeks at Rick Rubin’s recording facility, “Shangri-La.” The musician revealed that he has been collaborating with Rubin on new music; Young’s 2016 album “Peace Trail” was also recorded in Rubin’s studio. Young stated that the “unheard-of pairings of instruments” in his next songs will be featured. Young also talked about the new album’s tracklist, melodies, and composition process.
Neil Young said in July that he had completed recording an album with Crazy Horse, which Rubin had produced. The album, titled “Barn,” will be released in 2021. A Tip from You to Me, which is on White’s most recent album, “Entering Heaven Alive,” was played acoustically toward the close of the audio interview.
In addition to working with Young, Rubin has recently announced his debut book, produced the Red Hot Chilli Peppers album “Unlimited Love,” and begin producing for both film and television. During his Supply Chain Issues world tour, White recorded a new live album, which he revealed would be released last month.
