After a sports podcast tweeted that a TMZ article stated the actress was dating Ace Mitch of the Toronto Blue Jays, Twitter was deluged with memes pushing false information about Robbie’s love life. “Per TMZ, Toronto Blue Jays Ace Mitch White is dating A-List actress Margot Robbie,” The Gate14 Podcast tweeted.
A week later, the tweet went wild with people making all kinds of plays on the “Per TMZ” reporting style. Robbie has been married to Tom Ackerley since 2016, contrary to what TMZ claimed. The Suicide Squad actress has not been dating Mitch.
As people tried their hand at spreading blatantly false information, Robbie was associated with everything from athletes to Roman emperors. Most made sure to adhere to the formula, which essentially consists of giving credit to TMZ and then including a picture of a beaming Robbie with whatever the lucky person in the ideal situation is.
