Actor Olivia Munn announced Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 43-year-old star said she had surgeries and a double mastectomy after being told she had breast cancer by a mammogram last year.

“In the last ten months I’ve had four surgeries, been in bed so many days I can’t even count them, and learned more than I ever thought possible about cancer, how to treat cancer and hormones,” Munn wrote on Instagram. “It’s weird, but I’ve only cried twice.” I guess I haven’t had the chance to cry lately. I focused more and put aside any feelings that I thought would hinder my ability to stay calm.

The star from “The Newsroom” said she found out she had breast cancer after her OB-GYN decided to figure out her risk assessment score.

In the post, Munn said, “What she did saved my life.”

“Checks you for 90 different cancer genes,” she said of the test she took in February 2023. All of them came back negative, even the BRCA gene, which raises the risk of getting breast or ovarian cancer. Her sister also tested negative for this gene.

In the winter of that year, she got a mammogram and soon after was told what was wrong.

My age, the history of breast cancer in my family, and the fact that I had my first child after turning 30 were all things that Dr. Aliabadi looked at. She found that my risk over my whole life was 37%. He said, “Because of that score, I was sent for an MRI, which led to an ultrasound, which led to a biopsy.” “The test results showed that I had Luminal B cancer in both breasts. Luminal B is a cancer that spreads quickly and attacks easily.

And 30 days after the test, she had both breasts cut out.
“One day I felt great, and the next day I woke up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery,” Munn said.

It was a secret because she “needed to catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing.”

Munn said she was telling her story to “help others find comfort, inspiration, and support on their journey.” She also encouraged others to get their breast cancer risk assessment results.

“I’m fortunate. We caught it in time for me to choose what to do. She said, “I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day.”

Munn also thanked her doctors, surgeons, and her partner, actor John Mulaney, with whom she has a 2-year-old son named Malcolm. “I’m so thankful to my friends and family for loving me through this,” she said.

When other stars saw her post, they sent her well wishes.

“Thank you so much for telling your story. Because you did that, I think you saved lives. “So much love to you and your family,” said actress Jessica Chastain.

The only thing Mindy Kaling wrote was “I love you.”

Katie Couric, who herself beat breast cancer, told her, “I’ve been thinking about you.” This could be the reason. I appreciate you sharing this and send you love.”

Mulaney also said something about the post.

Thank you for putting up such a fight to be here for us. “Malc and I love you,” he wrote.
