Who is Brad William Henke?
Brad William Henke was born in Columbus, Nebraska, on April 10, 1966.
Henke played football while attending the University of Arizona on a football scholarship before being selected in the NFL draught in 1989, where he played for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants.
He retired from professional football in 1994 as a result of injuries, so he relocated to Los Angeles and started a successful acting career.
The prison officer Desi Piscatella character in Orange Is the New Black seasons 4 and 5 was his most renowned role. He shared a SAG honour in 2017 for the best ensemble work in a comedy series.
In 2000, Henke launched an acting school in Los Angeles, where he assisted in advancing the careers of other actors.
How did he pass away?
The actor faced a health scare in May 2021 when he had to get surgery to treat a 90% blockage in his artery. He said at the time that having a heart attack at any moment was possible.
“Brad Henke was an incredibly kind man of joyous energy. A very talented actor, he loved being a part of this community….and we loved him back,” his manager, Matt DelPiano, wrote in a statement shared on Instagram. “Our thoughts are with his wife and family.”
On an Instagram post, he mentions also having removed a golf sized tumour from his body and starting anew with a clean state.
His family released a statement saying that the actor passed away in his sleep. No further details of his cause of death were disclosed.
Henke is survived by his mother Tammy, his sister Annette, his wife Sonja, his stepson Aaden, his stepdaughter Leasa and his grandchild Amirah
