What illness has Selena been battling?

Selena Gomez has a history of being open and honest about her personal life and health, particularly her battles with mental health problems.

In 2016, the world tour for Selena Gomez’s album Revival had to be cancelled after 55 shows because of the actress and singer’s struggles with depression and anxiety brought on by her ongoing lupus battle.

In 2020, during a livestream with Miles Cyrus she revealed to the world that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

She acknowledged having uneven to four different treatment centres since she was in her early 20s.

She also opened up about the fact that though she never actually tried to end her life, she spent a few years thinking about it.

Is the star battling infertility now?

After receiving a diagnosis, Selena admitted that she made an effort to befriend her mental illness while being aware of the negative implications it had on her hopes to one day become a mother.

She even recalls crying in her car after seeing a friend who was trying to get pregnant, since the two medications she takes for her bipolar disorder would make it difficult for her to have her own children.

Medication for bipolar disorder has the potential to result in birth deformities such as neural tube defects, heart defects, developmental delay, or neurobehavioral disorders. However, given that bipolar symptoms might deteriorate during pregnancy, some doctors advise continuing such medications through childbirth.

In the upcoming Apple documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me,” which launched Nov. 4, Gomez sheds even more light on her mental health.

Reddit users have been sharing their concerns about being bipolar with the same worries and happy to see some form of representation. They are supporting Gomez and are sharing their success stories on her thread.
