Think about what would have to be going on in your life for you to fake being taken away. Maybe you’re tired and need a break, but for some reason you can’t tell your family and friends. Maybe you live in your head a lot and are really into true crime.
But let’s be honest: the most likely reason someone would say they were kidnapped is to get money. Isn’t money always the bottom line? Sherri Papini lied about being kidnapped, and her story didn’t end when she “returned” to her home in Redding, California, after being gone for three weeks. This makes me wonder: Where is Sherri right now?
What’s going on with Sherri Papini?
Sherri pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and one count of making false statements on April 18, 2022. Sherri gave up her right to a jury trial as part of the deal. She also had to pay the California Victim Compensation Board, the Shasta County Sheriff’s office, the FBI, and the Social Security Administration $308,000 in restitution.
KRON4 says that Sherri started her 18-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution Victorville in San Bernardino County. This is a medium-security federal prison.
Now, a new Oxygen special will show more shocking information about how Sherri lied. We will get just that in Sherri Papini: Lies, Lies, and More Lies.
Based on the summary and the trailer that were only shown to Distractify, “The special takes viewers on a close-up and personal tour of all of Papini’s lies. It does this by relying heavily on recently released investigative footage, such as hours of never-before-seen interviews with Papini herself by law enforcement. It also has interviews with investigators, journalists, and people from the community who were all fooled by Papini’s lies at some point.”
How did Sherri Papini get hurt?
Sherri went for a run in Redding, California, where she lived with her husband Keith Papini and their two kids on November 2, 2016. Keith was surprised that neither Sherri nor the kids were home when he got home from work later that day. By then, she should have picked them up from day care.
Keith started to worry when he called the day care and found out that his kids were still there. He used the “Find My iPhone” app, according to Inquisitr, to figure out that Sherri’s phone had fallen somewhere along her usual jogging route. The phone was with her earbuds and a few strands of hair. Aside from that, the police had no clues until Sherri miraculously showed up 150 miles away from where she was said to have been taken.
The San Francisco Chronicle said that a truck driver heading north on I-5 saw Sherri. The SF Chronicle said, “She was tied down with ropes and had a brand on her left shoulder.” Keith told the media something about Sherri’s health that investigators didn’t know about at the time. They were still looking for the people who took her, and Keith giving that kind of information to the press could hurt their case.
