Avril Lavigne is a singer, songwriter, and fashion designer from Canada and France. She has a net worth of $60 million. At age 16, she signed a deal with Arista Records for two albums worth more than $2 million. Avril’s first album, “Let Go,” came out when she was 17. She has since sold more than 30 million albums and more than 50 million singles around the world, making her the youngest female solo artist to reach No. 1 in the UK. Lavigne has also been in a number of movies, such as “Going the Distance” (2004), “Fast Food Nation” (2006), and the animated films “Over the Hedge” (2006) and “Charming” (2018).

Early Years

Avril Lavigne was born on September 27, 1984, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Her full name is Avril Ramona Lavigne. She grew up with her mother Judith-Rosanne, father Jean-Claude, older brother Matthew, and younger sister Michelle. When Avril was 5, her family moved to a small town in Ontario called Greater Napanee. Her father turned the basement of their house into a music studio and bought Avril a microphone, keyboard, drum set, and a few guitars. Lavigne soon started writing her own songs and covering Garth Brooks and Shania Twain at country fairs. At age 14, Avril entered a radio contest and won the chance to sing with Twain on stage. Lavigne also liked to play hockey when she was younger. When she played in a boys league, she was named MVP twice.

Career

Cliff Fabri was Lavigne’s first manager. He hired her after hearing her sing cover songs at a bookstore in December 1999. He sent videotapes of Avril’s home performances to people in the music business. Mark Jowett of the Canadian management company Nettwerk set up for Lavigne to go to New York in the summer of 2000 to work with producer and songwriter Peter Zizzo. In November of that year, the head of Arista Records, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, came to Zizzo’s studio to hear Avril sing. He signed her to a $1.25 million record deal and gave her a $900,000 publishing advance.

Lavigne finished making her first album, “Let Go,” in January 2002. When it came out in June, it went to #2 on the “Billboard” 200 chart. The album went to number one in Canada, Australia, and the U.K., and by the end of the year, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said it was four times platinum (and 7-times platinum by 2018).

Avril was the best-selling female artist of 2002, and “Let Go” sold more copies than any other debut album that year. Her first single, “Complicated,” was number one in Australia and number two in the United States. “I’m with You” and “Sk8er Boi” were also top 10 hits, making Lavigne only the second artist to have three top 10 hits from a debut album on the “Billboard” Mainstream Top 40 chart. In March 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine had a picture of Avril on the cover.

After “Let Go,” Lavigne released “Under My Skin” (2004), “The Best Damn Thing” (2007), “Goodbye Lullaby” (2011), “Avril Lavigne” (2013), and “Head Above Water” (2019), as well as several hit singles, such as “My Happy Ending” and “Girlfriend. In 2008, Avril started her own clothing line called Abbey Dawn. She has also put out three fragrances: Black Star, Forbidden Rose, and Wild Rose.

Personal Life

Avril got married to Deryck Whibley of the band Sum 41 on July 15, 2006. They split up in November 2010. When Lavigne was 17, they became friends, and two years later, they started dating. Avril dated Brody Jenner for two years before she started dating Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger in July. Lavigne and Kroeger were dating for only one month before they got engaged. On July 1, 2013, they got married in the south of France. In 2015, they got a divorce.

Lavigne has been very open about her struggle with Lyme disease, which she was diagnosed with in 2014. She has said that she was bedridden for 5 months and thought she was going to die. Since being diagnosed with the disease, she has been working hard to raise awareness of it.
