The scriptwriters have started working on the third installment of The Princess Diaries
On November 15, 2022, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Disney is returning for a third installment of the 2001 released film, “The Princess Diaries” and Aadrita Mukerji is writing a script.
Although the official plot details haven’t been confirmed yet, but it is expected that the upcoming part would continue the story from the original two Princess Diaries films rather than rebooting the series.
Moreover, It is not confirmed whether Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis (Princess of Genovia) or not. But, she recently showed her interest in returning with Clarisse Renaldi, who played the character of her mother (Julie Andrews) in the film.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Hathaway told: “I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it.” “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work.”
Based on Meg Cabot’s novel, The Princess Diaries first released in 2001 and was a box office hit collecting $165.3 million globally. However, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which featured Hathaway’s return, was released in 2004 and earned around $134.7 million at the box office worldwide.
A few months ago, in July, Hathaway celebrated the 20th anniversary of the original Princess Diaries by sharing throwback photos from the film on her Instagram.
She wrote in the caption: Miracles happen… Happy 20th Birthday to #theprincessdiaries, AKA the film that launched a thousand sleepovers
Since the scriptwriters are now working on the movie’s plot, so we can probably expect filming to begin in 2023.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news about “The Princess Diaries 3.”
