Now, nearly 30 years after his last murder, Jeffrey Dahmer is all over the internet thanks to Netflix’s latest true crime series, DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The 10-part series, starring Evan Peters as one of the most infamous serial killers of all time, will focus on the police’s failures during Dahmer’s gruesome killing spree from 1978 to 1991 rather than recreating the chilling murders “over and over again.”
Even though the limited series is a fictional retelling of Dahmer’s crimes, the characters are all based on people who actually knew him. Perhaps you’re curious about David, Jeffrey’s younger brother, and how their lives have changed since he committed those horrifying acts. This is all the information we have on Jeffrey Dahmer’s brother, David.
Who Is David Dahmer?
David, who was born on December 18, 1966, seven years after Jeffrey, is said to have gotten his name from Jeffrey.
According to reports, their relationship took a minor hit when Jeffrey resented his younger brother, David, for receiving more attention than he did when he was born. In addition, their personalities couldn’t have been more dissimilar.
Lionel said that his brother Jeffrey was more introverted and reserved than his brother David was when the two brothers were interviewed together in 2004 on Larry King Live.
The boys ended up living apart from each other after their parents divorced. David moved in with their mother Joyce, while Jeffrey joined their father in Florida. Jeffrey killed his first person later that year. David, then 12 years old and a resident of Wisconsin, would have been completely cut off from Jeffrey.
Where is David Dahmer, Jeffrey’s brother?
When David was just 12 years old, he was taken away from his older brother Jeffrey. His mother Joyce reportedly won custody of him after divorcing his father Lionel in 1978. When David was 18 years old, he moved in with Joyce. In the home of his father and Shari, his stepmother, Jeffrey spent the night.
David had reportedly graduated from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio and severed ties with his brother Jeffrey before Jeffrey’s trial in 1991, as reported by The Cinemaholic. That explains why Lionel and Shari were always in court while he was absent.
Shari and Lionel went on Larry King Live ten years after Jeffrey’s death in prison to discuss “signs” of violence and questionable behavior on Jeffrey’s part. There were also brief updates on the family’s whereabouts in the 2004 interview.
David “did change his name,” they said, adding that he wished for the change to remain “completely secret” for reasons related to his professional and personal life. They also announced their excitement over the impending arrival of David’s second grandchild.
Since then, very little information has been made public about David; however, with the release of Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes on Netflix on October 7, we may finally get some answers.
