A new biography by Hunter Biden’s ex-wife of 24 years shows that although the sole surviving child of President Joe Biden “always acknowledged the benefit and advantage” of his famous family name, he “struggled under a tremendous drug addiction.”

The book by Kathleen Buhle, which was released on Tuesday, is consistent with the life circumstances revealed in Hunter Biden’s autobiography from last year, which paints a portrait of a tormented man.

Hunter has been under federal investigation for possible violations of tax and money laundering rules since 2018. He has been the subject of an investigation by the Republican party ever since the most recent presidential campaign.

The 52-year-international old’s business operations, particularly in China and Ukraine, are said by former president Donald Trump and his associates to be evidence of corruption.

Hunter publicly acknowledges that he has made unfortunate decisions, but neither he nor the president has admitted that he has breached any laws. The younger Mr. Biden is unemployed and the White House has stated that it will not interfere in what it refers to as a private legal situation.

And President Biden, who has frequently expressed his “great pride” in his son, has supported him throughout both his personal and public tribulations.

What About Hunter Biden?

Hunter Biden was given his mother’s maiden name when he was born in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1970 to President Biden and his first wife Neilia Biden.

He was just two years old in December 1972, fewer than six weeks after his father was elected to the US Senate and one week before Christmas, when a truck rammed into the family automobile, killing his mother and his sister Naomi.

His older brother Beau suffered a broken leg as a result of the accident, while he suffered a cracked head. The senior Mr. Biden took his oath of office from their hospital room. He wasn’t in the automobile.

After attending Yale Law School and Georgetown University, Hunter earned his law degree in 1996. He joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, a Catholic organization that volunteers to aid underserved communities, in the interim between earning his two degrees.

He met the lawyer Kathleen Buhle there, and the two were married in 1993. Hunter began drinking as a teenager and admitted to using cocaine as a college student, despite the fact that his father is a nondrinker.

He Went in And out Of Treatment

He enlisted in the US Navy Reserves in 2013 and took the oath of office in front of his father, who was the vice president at the time, during a White House event. He tested positive for cocaine use on his very first day at the naval station, which led to his dismissal, which he later claimed to be “embarrassed” by.

After the passing of his older brother Beau from brain cancer in 2015, the New Yorker claims that he binge-drank excessively, occasionally only leaving the house to buy vodka. His daughter Naomi once tweeted, “He and Beau were one. One intellect, one soul, one heart.

Ms. Buhle charged Hunter with “spending extravagantly on his personal interests” (including drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs, and gifts for women with whom he has sex) while “leaving the family with no means to pay legitimate bills” during a contentious divorce filing in 2017.

Speaking out this week about how her 24-year marriage fell apart, Ms. Buhle told Good Morning America that her husband was battling serious drug addiction. She added that this wasn’t the man she was married to.

Hunter reveals Ms. Buhle’s suspicion of his cheating in his biography Beautiful Things from 2021. He was “the biological and legal father” of a kid born to exotic dancer Lunden Alexis Roberts, according to a DNA test conducted in 2019.

In his memoir, Hunter stated that he had “no recollection” of their meeting. However, he and Ms. Roberts reached a paternity settlement, and he now provides her with child support.

Hunter also started seeing Hallie Biden, the widow of his late brother, before his divorce from Ms. Buhle was officially finalized. According to Hunter, the two developed a close friendship via their “very personal pain” over their loss.

After a brief six-day affair, Hunter married South African filmmaker Melissa Cohen just a few weeks later. They only have a son. Speaking candidly about his battle with addiction in 2019, he said: “It doesn’t go away by itself. You determine how to handle it “.

In Beautiful Things, he describes how his family’s devotion helped him survive. He talks of an intervention during which his father hugged him and said: “I’m at a loss for what to do next. I’m very terrified. Give me instructions “.

According to an article in the New York Times, he used painting as therapy, claiming that it “keeps me away from people and places where I shouldn’t be.”

But the Biden White House faced an ethical conundrum due to a 2021 art exhibition where he would sell his paintings for up to $50,000 each. Hunter worked for MBNA America, a Delaware-based bank holding firm that was ultimately bought by Bank of America, after receiving his law degree from Yale.

What Did Hunter Biden Do in China and Ukraine?

His father was a longtime friend of the bank, one of the biggest employers in Delaware, and a significant political donor, earning him the unfavorable nickname “the senator from MBNA.” When the younger Mr. Biden attained the position of executive vice-president, his father pushed through the Senate bankruptcy reform legislation that was advantageous to the bank.

Hunter launched a lobbying firm in Washington in the early 2000s while still collecting consulting payments from the bank. According to Politico Magazine, he attracted “clients with interests that overlapped with [his father’s] committee assignments and legislative ambitions.”

The father-son dynamic at the time, according to him, was that neither would discuss lobbying with the other. This is still the case, according to President Biden, even in light of more recent accusations of malfeasance.

During Barack Obama’s inauguration as president, Hunter (on the left) gestures to onlookers alongside his father Joe and brother Beau.

In 2006, Senator Joe Biden’s son and another cousin made a disastrous purchase of a hedge fund company called Paradigm Global Advisors just as he was about to retake the chairperson of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.

They remained at Paradigm throughout Joe Biden’s presidential campaign in 2008 and his appointment as President Barack Obama’s vice president. The fund was linked to multiple alleged criminal scams during this time, including one involving a Texas financier who was found guilty of operating one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in US history. The Bidens were not charged and denied any wrongdoing. They liquidated the fund in 2010 and paid investors their money back.

The Republican Party and former President Trump have suggested that President Biden’s son’s international business transactions were dubious and had conflicts of interest.

He was on the board of the Chinese private equity firm BHR Partners from 2013 to 2016, initially as an unpaid member and then as the owner of a 10% ownership share in the fund. This viewpoint has been regularly cited by Mr. Trump, who has asserted that Joe Biden is “China’s puppet,” as proof of his rival’s corruption.

Hunter also collaborated on a Louisiana natural gas project with Chinese oil mogul Ye Jianming after his father left the White House in 2017. After Ye was taken into custody by Chinese authorities on suspicion of corruption and later went missing, the agreement looks to have fallen through.

However, commercial activities in Ukraine have generated the most criticism. In 2014, Hunter reportedly received up to $50,000 (£38,000) per month when he joined the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas business.

His father was at the time actively working to fight corruption in Ukraine. In order to demand the dismissal of Viktor Shokin, the nation’s top prosecutor, who had come under fire for obstructing corruption probes, Vice President Biden rallied other Western leaders.

The Ukrainian parliament ousted Mr. Shokin in 2016. According to Mr. Trump and several of his associates, he was fired for looking into Burisma.

After he urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a phone call to look into Hunter’s contacts with Burisma, allegations of wrongdoing by the Bidens became the focal point of the impeachment campaign in 2019. Since then, he has stepped down from the boards of Burisma Holdings and BHR Partners.

A 2015 email from a Burisma adviser thanking him for the invitation to visit his father, the US vice president at the time, in Washington, DC, came to light during the 2020 election campaign. This information was found on a laptop that the younger Mr. Biden left at a repair shop.

The senior Mr. Biden referred to the accusations as a “smear campaign” created by Russian disinformation without offering any supporting material.

Despite the fact that the email has subsequently been verified, Joe’s agents have consistently disputed that such a meeting ever happened, adding that Joe had never brought up doing business with his kin.

In connection with the federal probe against the president’s son, the FBI reportedly took the laptop from the repair shop and is now looking through its contents.

According to a study by NBC News, Hunter’s company earned around $11 million (£9.2 million) between 2013 and 2018 from its operations in China and Ukraine, including about $5 million from the Louisiana gas project alone.

Additionally, it apparently showed that at one point, spending on premium hotel suites, sports car payments, and cash withdrawals totaled more than $200,000 per month.

The first son, who denies engaging in any criminal conduct, says he is “cooperating entirely” with federal authorities in Delaware who are currently looking into his money and overseas connections.

In an interview with CBS News, he said, “I’m quite positive, 100 percent certain, that at the conclusion of the inquiry, I will be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

According to CBS News, congressional Republicans are investigating claims that a wealthy Hollywood attorney has lent Hunter $2 million to cover unpaid taxes. Hunter’s father has remained encouraging throughout, stating he was proud of him and anticipated that he would “come stronger” from the probe.

President Biden Has Defended Hunter Numerous Times:

In the most recent election, Mr. Trump attacked his rival at a presidential debate, saying, “Hunter got kicked out of the military, dishonorably discharged for cocaine use, and he didn’t have a job until you became vice-president.”

a visibly moved Joe Biden retorted: “Simply put, that is untrue. Like many other people, my son struggled with drug use. I’m pleased with my son because he worked hard to fix and improve it “.
