Actor Chris Pine plays a “terrifying” figure modeled on controversial Canadian psychologist and author Jordan Peterson in Olivia Wilde’s upcoming film, Don’t Worry Darling.
Starring as Frank, the utopian desert community’s leader, the Wonder Woman actor appears in Wilde’s next psychological thriller.
Pine co-stars with Harry Styles and Florence Pugh as a fifties couple whose perfect life is shattered when Pugh’s Alice learns her husband’s sinister secret after the disappearance of a neighboring housewife.

Wilde discussed Frank’s background with fellow actor Maggie Gyllenhaal in a recent interview with Interview Magazine.
The incel group has a “pseudo-intellectual idol” in Jordan Peterson, and “we based that figure on this mad man,” Wilde said.
A group of “disenfranchised, predominantly white men who believe they are entitled to sex from women,” she described the incels further.
They think society has taken advantage of them, that feminism is counterproductive, and that we need to be placed back in our proper place, as Wilde phrased it.
In the latter part of this decade, Peterson’s attention skyrocketed after he made a habit of publicly espousing his controversial views, many of which are critical of PC norms.
Wilde elaborated, saying, “This guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimizes certain components of [the incels] movement because he is a former professor, an author, and he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously.”
An agent for Peterson has been reached out to by The Independent for comment.

Wilde’s first feature film as a filmmaker, the 2019 adolescent comedy Booksmart, was favorably received, and Don’t Worry Darling is her second.
