Singer and actress J.Hud (born September 12, 1981), better known by her stage name Jennifer Kate Hudson, is an American star. As a singer and actress, Hudson has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award and two Grammys. She has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Early Life
Hudson was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 12, 1981. Darnell Donerson and Samuel Simpson had her as the third and last of their nine children. She grew up in Englewood as a Baptist and attended Dunbar Vocational High School, where she graduated in 1999 with a diploma in vocational studies.
Among her influences and inspirations are Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Patti LaBelle. Also, one of her musical “heroes” has been Mariah Carey.
It was with the support of her maternal grandmother, Julia, that she received her first taste of performing at the tender age of seven. After a semester at Langston University, she decided to transfer to Kennedy–King College because she was homesick and dissatisfied with the weather.
Righteous Records, a Chicago-based small label, signed Hudson to her first recording contract in January 2002. In order to compete on American Idol in 2004, she was released from her contract with Righteous Records after five years.

Jennifer Hudson’s Transformation From ‘American Idol’ Days To Now
When J-Hud made her American Idol debut, she was a mere 22 years old, yet her voice was already as big as any superstars. She stunned the judges with her flawless performances week after week. The elimination of Jennifer in seventh place came as a complete surprise to the show’s viewers. However, instead of letting that discourage her, she used it to become an even greater star than anyone could have ever dreamed!
As a result of her performance on American Idol, Jennifer was cast in the film Dreamgirls, which helped her career take off. In the film, her acting and singing were widely praised, and Jennifer was nominated for several major awards shows for her performance.

Her acting career took off from there, with roles in films like Sex and the City and The Secret Life of Bees. She portrayed Aretha Franklin in a film called Respect which was released in 2019. In 2015, she made her Broadway debut in The Color Purple, her first major role on the Great White Way.
Jennifer underwent a physical transformation in the course of her illustrious career. Weight Watchers helped her lose 80 pounds in 2011, and she’s maintained her slim form ever since.
Even though she’s no longer a WW ambassador, Jennifer admits that she still keeps an eye on her diet. For example, “I just try to spread those meals out over the course of the day,” she said in an interview in 2017. What I put into my body is really important to me.
As a result, Jennifer’s personal style has evolved significantly over time. Take a look at the photos above to see how she’s changed in the sixteen years since she first appeared on television.
