Elon Musk reported that since pre-orders for the satellite internet system became available, SpaceX has produced more than 1 million Starlink terminals.
The CEO of Tesla said on Twitter that “Starlink now has over 1M user terminals manufactured.”
In April, SpaceX sent 5,000 Starlink terminals to war-torn Ukraine in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
On February 24, the day of the Russian invasion, a hack permanently shut off Ukraine’s satellite internet connectivity.
Additionally, the terminals enable crucial citizen service providers and government servants to maintain communication both within Ukraine and with the rest of the world.
In a previous USAID press release, it was said that SpaceX had supplied 3,667 satellites for “approximately $10 million,” and that USAID had acquired the remaining 1,333 terminals.
Meanwhile, Musk recently claimed that Starlink, his rocket company’s satellite Internet subsidiary, is now operational on all continents, including Antarctica.
Nearly 1,000 people live and work at McMurdo Station in Antarctica during the summer, and there is already satellite internet there, but it is unreliable in bad weather.
