According to Jada Pinkett Smith, her commitment to her husband was reaffirmed after the Chris Rock and Will Smith slapping incident at the 2022 Academy Awards.

In-person talks held on Monday night at the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York City in collaboration with CAA and Vanity Fair, featured Jada recalling how she and Will “did some really deep work together” following Will’s on-stage slap of Rock during the Oscars ceremony, which occurred after the comedian made a joke about Jada’s bald head.

“It dawned on me as I sat at the Oscars. As quickly as I thought, “Oh no, did you hit Chris?” stated Jada. I said, “I’m going to ride with you.” Although I didn’t come here to be your wife, I’m leaving as your wife because we have a storm together that we need to weather together. I’m not going to abandon you.

Jada thought back to the previous seven years that she had been apart from Will Smith. “I had to go and really learn how to love myself before I could even identify what love looked like coming from somebody else in 2016,” she remarked. “We were both exhausted, pulling at each other, having power struggles.”

Jada said, “I had to really get that about Will.” “I had no right to him.”

Jada informed the audience that she was allowed to include anything about Will and their lives in her memoir, as well as permission from Trey, Jaden, and Willow.

After years of separation, Jada Pinkett Smith claims that her Oscars slap validated her marriage to Will Smith: ‘I’m Leaving Here as Your Wife’

“You haven’t been able to have your authentic voice through and through,” Will said, according to her account. “I trust you, and I will feel at ease with whatever you have to share.”

Jada disclosed that Will had read the book before she sent it to her editor, but “he didn’t change a word.” He made no changes.

“Worthy,” Jada’s most recent memoir, will be out on Tuesday.
