Early Years of A$AP Rocky
Rakim Mayers, better known as A$AP Rocky, was born in Harlem on October 3, 1988. Mayers’ interest in rap music began when he was in elementary school, and he had written his first songs by the third grade. Mayers’ father was sent to prison for drug trading when he was 12 years old, and his elder brother was slain shortly thereafter. A$AP Rocky spent time in several homeless shelters with his family. In addition to his rap music career, Rocky peddled pot and crack. His fellow future rapper Cassanova was in the same cell block where he was for two weeks after he was arrested for drug selling.

A$AP In 2007, Rocky became a member of the A$AP Mob Crew, an organisation of Harlem-based rappers, producers, and other music industry enthusiasts. In early 2011, one of his tunes, “Peso,” made its way into the internet and eventually onto Hot 97, one of the most prominent radio stations in the tri-state area and beyond, catapulting him onto the national rap scene. Soon after, he released a second single titled “Purple Swag,” and its music video became an overnight sensation. He quickly began touring after signing a $3 million record contract with Sony, RCA Records, and Polo Grounds Music, with $1.7 million going towards his solo work and $1.3 million going towards funding his firm ASAP Worldwide, which he co-founded with A&R and executive producer Steven Rodriguez (known as ASAP Yams).
In July of 2012, Rocky was a featured performer at the Pitchfork Music Festival. He was due to make his television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon later that month, but was arrested the night before on suspicion of participating in a fight. On the late programme airing on August 21, the new date of his performance, he sang “Goldie.”
“Long. Live. A$AP,” Rocky’s debut album, was released in 2013 and was a critical and commercial success upon its release. He went on a 40-city nationwide tour in support of the record. After some time, on March 16th, 2015, Long. Live. A$AP. was officially certified gold. Later in 2013, in addition to his musical accomplishments, ASAP dropped a clothing line and went on to work with celebrity designer and personal friend Raf Simons.
Rocky’s second studio album, “A.L.L.A,” was leaked online on May 25, 2015, one week before its scheduled release. This followed the release of two successful singles in 2014. Reviews for his second album were mostly excellent, and it went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 with its premiere. However. Sales of A.L.L.A. rapidly dropped, making it his lowest-selling album ever.
In 2018, Rocky worked on the song “Cocky” alongside Gucci Mane and 21 Savage to promote the movie Uncle Drew. In 2018, he dropped two singles: Bad Company on March 27 and A$AP Forever on April 5. Testing, his newest album, was released on May 25, 2018, and immediately shot to No. 4 on the Billboard 200. A$AP has worked with several different musicians, including Tyler, the Creator, Drake, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, and Lana Del Ray, over the years.
