Ashton Kutcher is a well-known American actor, producer, entrepreneur, and former model. His full name is Christopher Ashton Kutcher but he prefers to go by Ashton Kutcher.
Beyond entertainment, he is also involved in business and is a successful investor. Read ahead to know all about his successful career and investments that helped him build his fortune.
Ashton’s early life and career breakthrough
Born on February 7, 1978, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ashton is the son of Diane and Larry M. Kutcher. His parents are an employee at Procter & Gamble and a factory worker respectively.
After some stressful and tense former years of life, due to his fraternal twin’s heart condition and cerebral palsy, Ashton developed a keen interest in acting during his high school years.
While studying at the University of Iowa, He was approached by a model scout at The Airliner bar in Iowa City. Ashton was convinced by him and enrolled in the “Fresh Faces of Iowa” modeling competition. He won the first prize as well as a trip to New York City’s International Modeling and Talent Association convention. Leaving Iowa for a stay in New York City, Kutcher then returned to Cedar Rapids, before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
After an IMTA competition, Kutcher signed up with Next modeling agency and appeared in commercials for Calvin Klein, and modeled in Milan and Paris as well.
After attaining success in the modeling industry, Kutcher auditioned and moved to Los Angeles. He was selected for the role of Michael Kelso in the television series That 70’s Show. He got cast in several movies as well.
He was a significant part of films like Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000), Just Married (2003), and Guess Who (2005). He also produced and hosted his own MTV show, Punk’d. Along with that, he produced several other shows like Beauty and the Geek, Adventures in Hollyhood, The Real Wedding Crashers, and the game show Opportunity Knocks.
A 2004 interviewer described Kutcher as a “hunky young actor [who] is heading in all different directions at once”, including “the hot L.A. restaurant Dolce”:
“If anything, I’m a trier,” says Kutcher between puffs of filtered Lucky Strikes. “I think, more than anything, it comes from the fact that my father always had several irons in the fire. Also, I don’t want to fail. If something doesn’t work out—if That ’70s Show got canceled or if I wasn’t going to have a film career—I always wanted to have backup contingency plans. So I just started doing other things; and on a half-hour sitcom, you’re only working for 30 hours a week. It allows a lot of time for sitting around, which I always kind of filled with work.
Apart from a successful acting career, Ashton also explored venture capital. He is an investor in several tech startups and many other businesses.
In 2010, he founded the venture capital firm A-Grade Investments with three other partners. The firm turned out a success, too, and has earned him several million.
