The Gorillaz Characters

Murdoc Niccals (Bass)

The virtual band Gorillaz’s bassist is a fictional character named Murdoc Faust Niccals. He is an Englishman. He was made by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett and is voiced by Phil Cornwell. He was in charge of the band’s conceptualization and formation. The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards served as the model for Murdoc. The band’s leader is thought to be this Englishman.

2D (Vocals)

“2-D” Stuart Harold A made-up English musician and singer named Pot is a part of the Gorillaz virtual band from the United Kingdom. He performs lead vocals and piano music for the group. In several Gorillaz direct-to-video projects, including Phase Two: Slowboat to Hades and Phase One: Celebrity Take Down, actor Nelson De Freitas provides 2-D’s speaking voice. Blur frontman Damon Albarn provides his singing voice for Gorillaz’s recordings and live performances. Kevin Bishop took over as 2-D’s new voice. 

Noodle

Noodle is a made-up Japanese singer and musician who performs as a member of the Gorillaz virtual band from the United Kingdom. She plays lead guitar for the band and occasionally sings lead and supporting vocals. Haruka Abe and Haruka Kuroda have both voiced Noodle. The trip-hop trio Cibo Matto’s singer-songwriter Miho Hatori, Haruka Kuroda, is a Japanese-English actress. Haruka Abe is also a Japanese-English actress.

Russel Hobbs (Drums)

American musician Russel Hobbs performs with the British Virtual band Gorillaz. He provides the band with the drums and percussion. He made his debut with Gorillaz’s first EP, Tomorrow Comes Today, released in 2000. Remi Kabaka Jr., a Nigerian drummer who joined Gorillaz in 2016 to play genuine percussion, provides his vocal.

The Gorillaz Face Reveal

Despite being a virtual band, the members of Gorillaz have always been shrouded in mystery, and the true identities of the individuals behind the characters have never been revealed.
