Despite the lack of an official announcement, Deadline reported on April 2 that the show would be returning to Netflix in late 2020. In short, fans were ecstatic and looking forward to the upcoming season with bated breath.
However, on August 21st, 2020, Netflix announced via Deadline that the decision had been reversed and the show will be canceled.

Why Was ‘The Society’ Canceled?
Production of the show was temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak but was expected to resume shortly.
Everyone on set has been gearing up for their return to work, as several cast members have noted. The COVID scenario, however, may have caused production costs to skyrocket, and Netflix may now be reconsidering its choice.

Briefly restating, the plot of this series follows a group of high school students as they experience a series of supernatural events.
They intended to go on a field trip but turned around when they realized they couldn’t reach their objective.
However, strange things were happening when they got back to their hometown, and it was completely empty. They must determine the cause of the current situation and make the best of it.
