One of the most prominent film festivals in the world, the Venice Film Festival, had a scenario today in which charismatic actor Brendan Fraser was so moved by his role in the film The Whale that he broke down in tears during a six-minute standing ovation.

Brendan Fraser’s Burst Out In Tears

In response to a six-minute standing ovation, Fraser broke down in tears, solidifying his position as the frontrunner for Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Nick Kroll, and Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin were spotted inside the Big Room Theater, where they wept just as much as Fraser.

When the film’s devastating conclusion played, several people in the theatre likewise reached for tissues.

Fraser plays an overweight father in The Whale, while Stranger Things singer Sadie Sink plays his estranged 17-year-old daughter. Ty Simpkins, Samantha Morton, and Hong Chao also make appearances in the film.

The film is based on the play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter, who reworked the theatrical script to feature Aronofsky.

Fraser revealed the details of his prosthetic costume in an interview before the film’s release in Venice “heavy, not very cozy; the torso section reminded me of a straitjacket; the sleeves were identical to the rest of the suit thanks to some hand-finishing. even the hair is hand-cut to resemble human skin.”

At a press conference in Venice, Fraser remarked, “I developed muscles I didn’t know I had.” “When they removed the hardware at the end of the day, it was like walking off the dock into a boat in Venice, and I was seasick.
