Barry Season Three finale appeared to be the end of the road for Barry Berkman. Barry is due to return for Season Four in April 2023, with Hader directing all eight episodes—though it appears to be his final. Season Four will apparently be the end of the HBO series, according to Bill Hader himself, following months of interviews foreshadowing the impending batch of episodes as Barry’s final chapter.
What Is Barry About And What Happened In Season 3?
The wonderfully humorous sitcom, co-created by Bill Hader and Alec Berg, stars Bill Hader as Barry Berkman, a scarred war veteran turned despondent hitman who unwillingly travels to Los Angeles to conduct a hit on a promising actor. When Barry ends up in an acting class by chance, he finds himself pulled to the stage and Tinseltown’s friendly theatrical culture. He wants to change his life and start over as an actor, but his criminal history would not let him.
When we last saw “Barry Block,” he had been betrayed by his buddy and acting tutor, Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), who turns him over for being a deadly hitman, leaving him in a cellblock with his previous manager, Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root).
When Is Barry Season 4 Releasing?
Season 4 of Barry premieres on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 10 p.m. ET. That day, two episodes will be released, and one new episode will be released each week until the conclusion on May 28.
The fourth and final season of Barry will run for eight episodes starting on Sunday, April 16. It will conclude on Sunday, May 28.
Barry Season 4 Cast
Bill Hader reprises his role as conflicted hitman-turned-actor Barry Berkman.
The rest of the cast includes:
- Stephen Root as Barry’s ex-handler Monroe Fuches (who Barry will likely be running into in prison).
- Sarah Goldberg as Barry’s on-again-off-again actress girlfriend Sally, who’s blown up her career prospects and personal life by murdering someone for the first time by the end of Season 3.
- Anthony Carrigan as Chechen gangster Noho Hank, who also commits murder for the first time in Season 3.
- Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau, an acting coach who betrayed Barry at the end of Season 3 to get justice for his one true love.
It is unclear who else will be joining Barry Season 4’s cast, as either recurring or guest stars.
Barry Season 4 Plot Speculation
“How quickly is Barry going to get out of this jam?” is the key issue for Barry season 4. So, after spending the better part of three seasons attempting to flee the one job he’s truly excellent at, the titular hitman who simply wants to act now needs to figure out a fresh way out. It’s unclear if the scheme to bring Barry in was completely Gene Cousineau’s idea or if Jim Moss had a hand in it, but it feels like those two could be looking over their shoulders if Barry escapes.
Well, Barry getting arrested comes at an odd time. He could encounter Fuches in prison, as his former mentor was also apprehended at the end of the season.
Then there’s NoHo Hank and Cristobal’s narrative. Now that our beloved Chechen gangster has saved his lover, the two must return home safely. In Barry’s world, the odds are they won’t make it back safely and will have to deal with even more mayhem. Once they’re safe, we’re sure these lovers will desire the same thing Barry does: to get away from the life of crime.
Finally, a word for Sally, who will be disappointed that she isn’t receiving more credit here. Sally has a nemesis in old friend Natalie Greer after returning to Joplin to reconnect with her origins. Yet, given the nature of the program, we believe the two will end up working together.
