Scott Piercy, a 41-year-old PGA Tour veteran, lost two significant sponsors on Thursday as a result of his contentious Instagram remarks.
One made reference to Pete Buttigieg, a previous Democratic presidential candidate, while the other made reference to QAnon, an extreme conservative conspiracy theory alleging a covert plan against President Donald Trump.
Golfdigest.com was the first to announce that Acushnet-owned Titleist and FootJoy have terminated their sponsorship of Piercy. The Las Vegas-based clothing manufacturer J. Lindeberg likewise broke off contact with the individual.
Both of the companies websites have been updated to remove Piercy’s name and image. Piercy fired 1-under 71 on Thursday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

2020 Controversy – Scott Piercy
For every single person on the planet, the year 2020 has been nothing short of chaotic. In addition to the ongoing pandemic of the coronavirus, it has affected individuals as well.
When one’s home, people get into social media pages to connect. We do connect most of the time, but occasionally the connection is broken by a slip.
Scott Piercy, one of our golfers, published an Instagram followers meme that contained a homophobic insult. Pete Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, who is gay as we all know, was asked to elaborate on the message. But his meme stood for the anti-gay sentiment.
He also made claims of child sex abuse against QAnon, a far-right conspiracy group, which added gasoline to the fire.
The player received hate mail, insults, and ignorance in response to that particular upload. It appears that his one social media blunder cost him two of his key sponsors.
