Cherry Valentine has died. A statement from the actor’s parents was posted on Instagram through his PR company and stated that the Drag Race UK star, whose actual name was George Ward, passed away on September 18. He was 28.
It is with the utmost heartbreak and regret that we must inform you of the unfortunate death of our George, Cherry Valentine, as stated in the statement. “This will come as a great shock to the majority of people, and we realize there is no simple way to announce this,” the statement reads.
The message reads, “As his family, we are still processing his death and our lives will never be the same.” “We are aware of how he is adored and how many lives he has influenced. We only ask for your patience and prayers at this difficult time. Georgie, we adore you.”
There was no additional information available at the time of Ward’s passing.
Ward, a mental health nurse who was born in Darlington, England, had an appearance on six episodes of Drag Race UK in 2020.
In response to Ward’s passing, the series’ Instagram account posted images from his tenure on the program.
We are devastated by Cherry’s passing, the post said. “She was a good person with a unique laugh who made everyone around her smile. We shall truly miss her; she added flair, vigor, and fun to #DragRaceUK.”
RuPaul’s Drag Race in the United States also responded to the news by tweeting, “Cher Valentine, may you rest in peace. We appreciate you sharing your talent with us. You are sorely missed.”
Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud, a documentary that featured Ward earlier this year, tells the tale of how he left the Gypsy culture after being turned down after he came out as gay.
