A Brief Peek Into The Life Of Sam Neill
Sam Neill was born on September 14, 1947, in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, to Priscilla Beatrice and Dermot Neill. His father was a second-generation New Zealander while his mother was English.
He moved to New Zealand with his family and completed his education at Christ’s College, Christchurch. He then went on to study at Victoria University where he graduated with a BA in English literature.
His birth name was Sir Nigel John Dermot Neill, but he took to calling himself Sam during his school years as there were many other boys named Nigel too.
He started off his career by acting in films in New Zealand. He also wrote and directed a film for the New Zealand National Film Unit. His breakthrough performance came with the film Sleeping Dogs (1977), the first local film to be widely screened abroad.
He then moved to Australia where he got several roles in TV shows and movies. His career took off soon after. He has since been a famous actor and is well-respected in the industry as well.
The actor is 75 years old today. His recent announcement about his health has surprised everyone.

Despite that, he is supposed to be on a relatively new chemotherapy drug that he will take for months for the rest of his life.
“I’m not off the hook as such, but there’s no cancer in my body,” Neill spoke about it.
“I can’t pretend that last year hasn’t had its dark moments,” Neill added in the interview. “But those dark moments throw the light into sharp relief, you know, and have made me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. Just pleased to be alive.”
Sam is now doing “very well and back at work,” his representative added.

He is presently working on “Apples Never Fall,” a Peacock limited series based on best-selling novelist Liane Moriarty’s “Big Little Lies” book. Annette Bening also appears in the project.
