Early Life
On April 21, 1949, LuPone was born in Northport, New York. LuPone’s passion for musical art began at an early age. Her love of musical opera was sparked, she said, by the fact that her great-great-aunt was an opera singer.
In her first year at Juilliard’s Drama Division, she met Kevin Kline and David Ogden Stiers, two of her favorite actors. In 1972, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from Juilliard.

Since she is a superb theatre actor and vocalist, Patti LuPone has enjoyed a long and successful acting and singing career.
The Three Sisters” for The Acting Company in 1972, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a brilliant grade, had her debut on Broadway in 1973. Since then, she has worked closely with the company.
As a result of her stellar performances in such shows as “The Beggar’s Opera,” “The Robber Bridegroom,” and “The Baker’s Wife” throughout the 1970s, LuPone was nominated many times for a Tony Award.

When she played Eva Peron in the Broadway production of Lloyd Webber’s “Evita,” she won her first Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

In 2008, she won a second Tony Award for her performance as Rose in “Gypsy,” and in 2009, she won an Olivier Award for her performance as Joanne in the revival of “West End” by Stephen Sondheim’s Company.
Grammy Awards were given to her for her performance in Los Angeles Company’s staging of “Rising and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” in 2007. The American Theatre Hall of Fame even recognized her work in 2006, when she was admitted into its inaugural class.
Patti has been in a number of films and television shows in addition to the theatre. Some of Ryan Murphy’s programs, including “Horror story: Coven” in 2013, “Pose” in 2019, and “Hollywood” in 2020, all shown on Netflix, included her as a character.
Between 2014 to 2016, she starred as the title character in the hit Netflix series “Penny Dreadful.” When Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premiered on Netflix in 2017, she portrayed Rabbi Shari. In addition, she has participated in a number of major film projects, including Steven Spielberg’s “1941” in 1979, Peter Weir’s “Witness” in 1985, and “The Comedian” in 2016.

You are responsible, physically, mentally, and emotionally, for eight shows a week, at the top of your game. It’s not easy.
I love what I do, and I love the audience, and I love the fact that I get to do it, and I love, I love our craft very, very, much, and it’s a noble craft. We have a responsibility to it, to the audience, the playwright, and the message. I won’t ever be careless.
Let me say I was trained at Juilliard. I have a very high standard. I expect everybody around me to work equally as hard because people pay a lot of money for tickets. They demand the best that we have.
