Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife Jerry Hall has officially filed for divorce.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Friday, Hall, 65, filed in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County. When she filed for divorce, she cited “irreconcilable disagreements.”
Additionally, she does not want the court to be allowed to grant her ex-husband spousal maintenance. The 91-year-old Murdoch is paying for her lawyer’s bills.
When filing her petition for bankruptcy, she stated that she was “unaware of the full nature of any assets and debts, and would modify this Petition when the information is ascertained.” A similar argument can be made for collective and quasi-collective property ownership.
The deadline for a response from Rupert Murdoch is 30 days.
According to PEOPLE, a representative for Hall’s legal team did not immediately reply to a request for comment. On Murdoch’s part, it’s not apparent who is speaking for him.
The New York Times reported last month that two people acquainted with the issue said that Hall and Murdoch were separating. Friends and family members were allegedly stunned by the split.
An official from Spencer House in London confirmed to People at the time that the now-ex wed in a civil ceremony on March 4, 2016. The following day, they held their major wedding service at the famous Fleet Street St. Brides Church, where they invited up to 200 guests.
After being acquainted through one of Murdoch’s sisters and his niece in Australia, they began dating in the summer of 2015. When they became engaged, they kept their relationship a secret until the following January, when they announced it.
Even though they are divorcing, the New York Times reports that it will have no effect on his family’s ownership positions in Fox News and The Wall Street Journal, which he founded or co-founded.
According to Variety, while still married to Hall, Rupert Murdoch negotiated the $71.3 billion sales of 21st Century Fox to The Walt Disney Company in 2019. In addition to the Wall Street Journal and The Sun, he also manages HarperCollins and the Fox Corporation. While on Broadway, Hall starred as Ms. Robinson in The Graduate and was a regular cast member of Batman.

Murdoch has now been divorced four times. The media tycoon and Patricia Booker, his first wife, divorced in 1967 after a seven-year marriage. He married Anna Maria Torv in the same year. Both Murdoch and Wendi Deng divorced in 1999, the same year they married for the third time. They later parted in 2013. Six children were born as a result of his three marriages.
There were no children from this marriage. She has four children from her long-term relationship with rocker Mick Jagger, which lasted over two decades.
