KISS, the iconic rock band on its farewell tour, has faced yet another setback as lead vocalist Paul Stanley continues to grapple with a debilitating bout of the flu. The band was forced to cancel its concert scheduled for Friday, November 24, in Knoxville, Tennessee, marking the third consecutive show affected by Stanley’s illness.
Earlier today, KISS took to social media to convey their regrets: “Due to an unforeseen illness in the band party, we are unable to perform tonight. Refunds will be available at your point of purchase.”
What Happened To Paul Stanley?
Paul Stanley, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the American rock band Kiss, was recently sick. He contracted the flu in November 2023 and was forced to cancel three concerts: two in Canada and one in the United States.
Paul Stanley first announced his illness on Twitter on November 21, 2023, writing, “I’ve done everything possible to get onstage and be a part of the incredible 2 1/2 hour celebration we planned but this flu has made it impossible.”
He continued, “I along with Gene, Tommy, and Eric couldn’t be more disappointed and send our deepest apologies to everyone who was planning to be there. We hope to see you soon.”
Kiss canceled their Ottawa show on November 21, 2023, and their Toronto show on November 22, 2023. They also canceled their Knoxville, Tennessee show on November 24, 2023.
Paul Stanley has since recovered from the flu and is back on the road with Kiss. The band is currently on the final leg of their “End of the Road” farewell tour.
The gravity of Stanley’s condition was apparent as Ticketmaster promptly removed the Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center concert’s ticketing page from its website following the announcement.
This latest cancellation in Knoxville follows the scrapping of the band’s November 21 show in Ottawa and the November 22 concert in Toronto, both axed due to Stanley’s ailment.
Just two days ago, Stanley expressed his distress over the situation, acknowledging his battle with the flu that led to the regrettable cancellation of KISS’s final Canadian shows. He conveyed his heartfelt disappointment and apologies to fans, emphasizing the band’s collective frustration.
Unfortunately, rescheduling the canceled performances seems improbable, given KISS’s imminent conclusion of their farewell tour in early December.
The culmination of KISS’s final shows is set for December 2, a grand spectacle in the city where the band’s legendary journey began – New York City’s renowned Madison Square Garden. New York holds a significant place in KISS’s history, making it a fitting stage to bid adieu to their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame-worthy career.
KISS embarked on their farewell tour, “End Of The Road,” in January 2019 but had to pause it in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally slated to conclude on July 17, 2021, in New York City, the tour was extended to late 2023.
The band’s current lineup, featuring original members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, alongside guitarist Tommy Thayer (with the band since 2002) and drummer Eric Singer (with intermittent periods since 1991), has endured this unforeseen setback while bidding adieu to their extensive career.
KISS, formed in 1973, witnessed its first “farewell” tour in 2000, marking the last performances with the original lineup of Stanley, Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley. Now, as Paul Stanley battles the flu, the band navigates through this final chapter, hoping to conclude their illustrious career on a high note despite these unforeseen health challenges.
