Dark Winds Season 2 Release Date Speculation

Dark Winds Season 2 Release Date Speculation

The news is good, friends! The release date for the second season of Dark Winds has been set for 2023. The actual release date of the television series is unknown as of April 2023. AMC has confirmed that the TV show will return for a new season on June 21, 2022.

We also know that there will be a total of six episodes in the following installment, and that filming on Dark Winds season 2 wrapped up in February 2023 thanks to a blog post by executive producer George RR Martin (who will do everything to avoid writing the next Game of Thrones book). Season 2 is expected to premiere in June or July of 2023. And it looks like Martin agrees with us: “I’m thinking summer, maybe spring”

Take this with a grain of salt, though, because it’s only conjecture. We have yet to get an official announcement from the show’s creators. Keep checking back here for further information in the meanwhile.

Dark Winds Season 2 Plot

There may not be an official storyline summary for season 2 of Dark Winds just yet, but thanks to some tantalizing cliffhangers from the first season, we can make educated guesses about what to expect from the next installment.

Plenty of secrets were revealed and lives were lost in Dark Winds’ first season. It turned out that Whitover was a career con man who had been following the Buffalo society for years to steal from them rather than bring them to court. Yes, the promotion and pay increase was all phony; talk about low. It is also revealed that Chee was sent to the tribe to be Whitover’s fall guy.

Well, Whitover doesn’t get away with his grand plan entirely; Guy shoots him, and Bernadette and Chee assist cover up the murder by burying Whitover’s body and the stolen money in a cave and setting it on fire. James Tso, who committed suicide in the first season rather than surrender and face his misdeeds, was another casualty. That’s a lot of weight, huh?

A few months have passed since we last saw Chee; he has left the FBI and is living at home again. But Leaphorn has some unfinished business with the case and shows up at Chee’s home. Only Whitover’s body was located in the cave, suggesting that Frank Nakai, who was presumed dead after being attacked by Whitover in the cave, is actually still alive and has absconded with the cash.

It’s safe to assume that Chee will return to the force in season 2 in order to wrap up the ongoing investigation. Nakai has not yet been located. We have little doubt that new plots will be introduced as well. The authors of Season 2 of Dark Winds have a lot to work with, as the show is based on Anthony Grove Hillerman’s 18-volume novel series Leaphorn & Chee.

The first season was based on the novels Listening Woman and People of Darkness by Hillerman. Graham Roland, the show’s creator, recently revealed to Variety that plans are already in place for the next novel adaptation. But he hasn’t given any hints about which title or titles just yet.

Throughout the first season, we discussed what book we would read in the second. We’ve settled on one,” he declared. I’m not sure if I’m permitted to reveal the title of the book in question. I don’t want to put the new showrunner in an awkward position. However, that is roughly how we operate—one book per season.

In his blog post, Martin stated that the second season will focus on wrapping up the events in People of Darkness, while it is possible that another book will be involved. Keep checking back for updates, as we will be sure to share any information we come across with you.
