Jay Briscoe, one of the top professional tag-team wrestlers in the world, died at the age of 38.

On Tuesday, AEW President Tony Khan announced the death of Jay Briscoe, actual name Jamin Pugh, one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions.

Khan wrote in grief on Twitter: “Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.”

Briscoe has been a featured part of ROH from the company’s inception in 2002, as Khan said. Due to a relationship with ROH, the Briscoes have just transitioned to New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Pro Wrestling Star Jay Briscoe Dies At 38 In A Horrific Car Accident

Briscoe, actual name Jamin Pugh, was a Ring of Honor regular for many years. The Briscoes — Jay and his brother Mark — are the promotion’s 13-time tag-team champions, including their current reign.

When ROH went on hiatus in 2022, the brothers made multiple appearances in IMPACT Wrestling. Under Khan’s control of ROH, Jay and Mark had a series of critically lauded battles against FTR, which The Briscoes won in December to capture their thirteenth ROH tag team title.

Briscoe was involved in a horrific car accident on Tuesday evening in Laurel, Maryland, according to Dave Meltzer.

The report of the vehicle crash was initially confirmed by the Delaware State Police. WrestleZone extends its heartfelt sympathies to Jay Briscoe’s family, friends, and fans.
