NBC has officially renewed ‘Quantum Leap’ for a second season
On December 12th, Monday, the network announced that the series is getting one more season as it received an impressive 2.0 rating in the 18-49 age group and 10.8 million viewers overall across linear, digital, and streaming platforms, according to Nielsen and the network.
Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, on the series’ renewal: “We’re leaping into a second season thanks to the incredible work by our cast, producers, writers, and everyone who has played a role in giving this iconic NBC series a new life.”
She continued, “As we continue to bring audiences to our must-watch dramas, it’s gratifying to know Quantum Leap will have a prominent place next season both on our NBC schedule and the next day on Peacock.”
The recently released Quantum Leap is the follow-up to Donald P. Bellisario’s series of the same name. The original series aired for five seasons on NBC from March 26, 1989, to May 5, 1993. Eventually, its sequel premiered on September 19, 2022, with a total of eight episodes. After the first three episodes aired, NBC ordered six more for the first season, expanding the total to 18 episodes.
The Quantum Leap’s sequel stars Raymond Lee, Ernie Hudson, Caitlin Bassett, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Martin Gero serves as executive producer along with Dean Georgaris, Don Bellisario, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, Steven Lilien, and Bryan Wynbrandt.
With each episode earning a 0.5 in the highly sought-after 18-49 demo (in Live+Same Day ratings), Quantum Leap and CBS’ East New York shared the title of the fall’s highest-rated series debut. Quantum Leap is the No. 2 rookie show in the demo for the whole season, following only CBS’ Fire Country when delayed viewing is taken into account.
