Seth Rogen and their wife Lauren Rogen Miller recalled one of the event’s most legendary philanthropic gifts, and it involves a “blunt,” ten years after establishing their Alzheimer’s foundation Hilarity for Charity.
Speaking to ‘Variety’ on the 10th anniversary of their nonprofit Hilarity for Charity, Seth and Lauren described how Grammy Award nominee Snoop Dogg, 50, once raised five figures for Alzheimer’s awareness in typically Snoop Dogg fashion. According to ‘People’
Miller Rogen, also 40, added, “I think that went for $10,000.” Rogen then stated, “Snoop Dogg once auctioned off a blunt on stage for Alzheimer’s.”
If you’re lucky enough to be able to get Snoop Dogg to perform at your show and auction off a blunt for Alzheimer’s care and research, then I think that speaks very well to an unexpected but effective kind of melding of matters and sensibilities, he continued, “I think that encapsulates how we are approaching the space differently.”
After Miller Rogen’s late mother Adele was identified as having early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, the pair established Hilarity for Charity in 2012. Since then, they have regularly hosted events featuring comedians and singers to raise money for research into the condition.
Prior to her mother’s passing in 2020, Rogen earlier told ‘People’ that he was pleased with his wife for the way she handled her mother’s diagnosis.
I find Lauren’s discussion of it to be quite impressive, he remarked.
How much she discusses it and how openly she is willing to discuss it, added Rogen. “It’s been extremely good since it wasn’t like that at first, how open she is about talking about it and seeing how it’s given her a lot of control over her situation.”
Miller Rogen called her husband’s 2014 congressional testimony pleading for money for research into Alzheimer’s “quite wonderful” and said that the response it received was “very tremendous,” so that was “really great.”
The creator and star of “For a Good Time, Call…” continued, “We receive thank you messages from patients whose lives are much improved, and every time I get one of those notes, it’s like, “Wow, you’ve helped people.”
The 10th Anniversary Extravaganza of Hilarity for Charity will take place on Saturday, October 1 at Rolling Greens on Mateo in Los Angeles. Online ticket sales are available.
