Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was spectacularly revealed to be returning by Marvel Studios on Tuesday, breaking the internet.

Jackman appeared alongside Ryan Reynolds in a video announcement directed by Shawn Levy for Deadpool 3. The video was later posted to Reynolds’ social media sites and, shortly after, set off an internet firestorm.

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld was aware of Jackman’s return before it became essentially public knowledge on Tuesday.

Liefeld claims that he was made aware long before the announcement by an “industry friend” that Jackman had signed a contract to reprise his Wolverine character, officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of Deadpool 3 in 2024.

“The point is that the day following the Disney meeting, I had a business acquaintance who has never been incorrect and is highly influential in the entertainment world. These artists, it’s possible that they need some time off.

Hugh has signed on, dude, he tells me over the phone. Wolverine has returned. They’re carrying it out. Don’t question me. I’ve locked it. Deal completed. They’re carrying it out.” By Liefeld.

“I kind of knew when they intended to shoot and all that product information and all that information seems right on target, but nobody knew when they were going to reveal it,” the author said.

Prior to this month, Marvel Studios’ initial release date of February 2024 was postponed to September. Many people at the time had the proper idea that the threequel starring Ryan Reynolds will release on that day.

A New X-Men Movie Is Planned?

The only dated X-Men-related film on the Marvel Studios release schedule so far is Deadpool 3.

There have been speculations that an actual X-Men movie is in production, but nothing more outside Deadpool 3 and Disney+’s animated X-Men ’97 series has been officially revealed.

As of right now, Marvel movies and television shows have 2023 and 2024 completely booked, and 2025 is swiftly filling up. At the current rate, the release of Marvel’s X-Men revival wouldn’t happen until at least 2026.

The Premiere of Deadpool 3 Is Scheduled for September 6, 2024.
