Michael Richard Beschloss (November 30, 1955) is an American historian who focuses on the presidency of the United States. He has written nine books about the president.

Early Life

Beschloss attended Eaglebrook School, Phillips Academy (Andover), Williams College, and Harvard University after being born in Chicago and growing up in Flossmoor, Illinois.

He studied political science at Williams College, where he worked under James MacGregor Burns and graduated with Highest Honors, then went on to Harvard Business School to acquire an MBA, with the initial idea of writing history while working as a foundation executive.

Career

Beschloss is the NBC News Presidential Historian and a frequent commenter on the PBS NewsHour. He is a trustee of the White House Historical Association and the National Archives Foundation, as well as a member of the National Museum of American History’s board of directors.

He has been on the boards of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation (Monticello), the Urban Institute, the Miller Center for Public Affairs at the University of Virginia, and the PEN/Faulkner Foundation.

He is also a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships and serves on the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission’s advisory board.

He was a Senior Associate Member at St. Antony’s College (University of Oxford), a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard University Russian Research Center, a Senior Fellow of the Annenberg Foundation, and a Montgomery Fellow and Dorsett Fellow at Dartmouth College. He has been the chair of the annual Robert F. Kennedy Book Awards since 2014.

In 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2010, Beschloss appeared on The Daily Show. On February 14, 1998, Chris Kattan played him on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

In October 2012, he launched a Twitter account, @BeschlossDC. It was named one of Time magazine’s “Best Twitter Feeds of 2013.” He’s also written history essays for The New York Times under the name HistorySource.

She is the president and CEO of the Rock Creek Group, a Washington, D.C. hedge fund.

Afsaneh is a former World Bank treasurer and chief investment officer, as well as a current trustee of the Ford Foundation and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

It’s an odd coincidence that they’re both on the advisory board of Resources for Inner-City Children.
