Landscapeinsight– The 3.7 million low-income Texans who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) need to know when their next payment is due.
This is handled by Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC), but you need to know your Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number in order to find out when your payment is due.
Schedule for SNAP Distribution
Depending on the last two numbers of your EDG number, HHSC sends out SNAP supplies between the 1st and 28th of every month.
You can check this unique number by calling 800-777-7328 or looking it up on the acceptance letter you got from HHSC.
The following schedule shows when people with EDG numbers ending in 00 to 24 will get their SNAP payments this week:
- EDG Numbers Ending in 00-03: Payment Date 1
- EDG Numbers Ending in 04-06: Payment Date 2
- EDG Numbers Ending in 07-10: Payment Date 3
- EDG Numbers Ending in 11-13: Payment Date 4
- EDG Numbers Ending in 14-17: Payment Date 5
- EDG Numbers Ending in 18-20: Payment Date 6
- EDG Numbers Ending in 21-24: Payment Date 7
SNAP Benefits Eligible Purchases Explained
The Lone Star Card gets benefits from HHSC, like SNAP and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). It works like an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card used in other states. Your card balance is written clearly on your receipt every time you make a purchase.
If you’d rather not use the Texas Benefits mobile app, you can go to YourTexasBenefits.com or call the Lone Star Helpdesk at 800-777-7328 to check your card amount before the transaction.
SNAP funds, which are sometimes called “food stamps,” can be used to buy certain things, like food, seeds, and plants that grow food. Since the Lone Star Card works at most big grocery stores in Texas, getting the things you need is easy.

You can also use the USDA’s online merchant locator to find other close stores that are approved for SNAP. By being very aware of your payment due date and good at managing your Lone Star Card, you can make sure that you can quickly get the important food help that the Texas SNAP program offers.
