Season 7 of Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean, which begins on Monday, July 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, will be the show’s final season without Malia White as the bosun.
In spite of her well-known friendship with Captain Sandy Yawn, Malia decided not to head the deck crew while the super yacht Home sails around the Maltese island.
This is something Malia had stated she intended to do on Brandi Glanville’s “Unfiltered” podcast in June of 2022.
Since my scooter accident, I’ve been attempting to learn new skills and become a more well-rounded person. My ultimate goal is to be a police officer,” she stated.
In a scene from the season-opening, Captain Sandy stated that Malia’s desire was granted by greeting season 7 bosun Raygan.
“It would have been lovely to have Malia back, but right now she is a chief officer on another vessel,” she explained in voice-over.
It’s an honor for Sandy to be able to give this opportunity to a female deckhand since someone gave me the same opportunity. Thereby extending it forward is my goal.”
As a deckhand on the season 2 popular series, Malia got her start in the entertainment industry. “Yes, I’m back as bosun! “, she said on Instagram on April 30, 2020, confirming her return to the program in a far more prominent role.
Because of Below Deck Mediterranean, I’ve had a completely new outlook on life since the first season. Yachting was the professional path I chose after quitting my desk job.”
“I’ve grown up, learned, and accomplished a lot in the last five years, and I’m eager to share my journey from deckhand to bosun.” She went on to say, “Hopefully inspiring anyone else who wants to alter their life!”vllllllll
Season 5 saw Malia controversially turn in longtime chief stew Hannah Ferrier to Captain Sandy for carrying undeclared valium medication, albeit with a prescription, as well as a CBD vape pen, forcing Sandy to terminate Hannah.
Malia’s treatment of Hannah’s departure from the show drew criticism from fans because she didn’t openly talk to her about her medication instead of letting her go.
In season 6, Malia regained the respect of her deck team and continued to impress Captain Sandy, whom she had previously mentored. She has now progressed beyond the role of a bosun and is aiming to one day lead her own ship.
