Rita Moreno is sharing her own experience of having an abortion while also raising awareness of the anxieties she has for people who would be pressured into having risky abortions as a result of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

When she learned she was pregnant with her then-boyfriend Marlon Brando, Moreno, 90, had an abortion. She then spoke about her experience after making the decision.
According to her statement to Variety on Friday, the West Side Story actress became pregnant before Roe v. Wade’s 1973 decision that guaranteed women the right to an abortion in every state.
According to her account on the site, Brando advised her to have an abortion and helped her “find a doctor through some pals.” “Marlon paid him $500, so he was a legitimate doctor, not just some guy in a back alley,” Marlon said.
She experienced bleeding after returning home, and she later discovered the abortion was not complete.

She recalled being “jubilant” when Roe v. Wade first made abortions legal; nevertheless, she now describes herself as “depressed” by the Supreme Court’s ruling.

According to Justice Samuel Alito’s majority decision, “Roe and Casey must be overruled.” No such right is implicitly protected by any fundamental provision, and the Constitution makes no mention of abortion.
The Constitution must be followed, Alito argued, and the matter of abortion must be brought back before the people’s elected officials.
Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch—all of whom were selected by President Trump—supported the 78-page judgment.
