The launch date for Hulu’s relaunch of “Futurama” has been decided.
On July 24, Hulu will release brand-new episodes of the popular animated science fiction series, which is officially in its eighth season. After that, new episodes will air every Monday, with Season 11 (or Season 8, depending on how you slice it) having 10 episodes. 20 episodes in total were ordered by Hulu back in February 2022. The first season’s teaser, which was also made available through Hulu, is shown below.
This is the second time the program has been revived since it debuted in 1999. Reruns of the show gained fresh life after its first four-season run on Fox as part of the Adult Swim roster on Cartoon Network and on DVD.
Then came the creation of four direct-to-video movies, which were ultimately re-edited into a fifth season that debuted on Comedy Central in 2008. Between 2010 and 2013, Comedy Central would go on to run two additional seasons, each with 26 episodes.
“New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries,” the official synopsis of the new season reads. “These mysteries include developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles.
While the group discusses the future of vaccines, cryptocurrency, cancel culture, and streaming TV, a brand-new epidemic has arrived in town.
Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman were the original series’ voice actors. Originally not a part of the new episodes, John DiMaggio—best known for his role as Bender—announced his inclusion in March 2022.
The show was created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. Both of them, as well as Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz, are executive producers. The series’ animation is produced by Rough Draft Studios, while 20th Television Animation is the production company.
