After a poll of Twitter users, Elon Musk announced his resignation as CEO of the social media platform on Tuesday night.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers’ teams,” he tweeted.

Elon Musk asked Twitter followers on Sunday night if he should step down as Twitter CEO or not.

The survey closed Monday morning, where 57.5% of the voters were saying that he should step down and 42.5% were saying that he shouldn’t.

Whereas, Musk said Sunday night: “I will follow the results of this poll.”

“As the saying goes, be careful what you ask for because you could get it,” he tweeted on Sunday, adding, “Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it.”

Elon Musk To Resign as Twitter CEO, Says "I Need Someone Foolish Enough to Take the Job"

It’s unclear how serious stepping down as CEO would be. The billionaire controls Twitter, which he turned private and will continue to do. On Sunday, he stated that he had no successor and that there were no competent contenders to manage Twitter.

“No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive,” Musk said.

Musk, who bought Twitter on October 27, fired the platform’s senior executives. Other top officials have subsequently been dismissed or resigned, leaving the executive suite unoccupied.
