For ten years, Kelly Ripa sat next to Regis Philbin in the morning.
On “Live With Regis and Kelly,” some performances were superior to others.
In her latest book, “Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories,” Ripa discusses her time on her morning program in detail. The passages regarding Philbin, according to Ripa, were “the hardest chapter to write.”
There would be “good and awful days,” Ripa, who co-hosts with Philbin, told the media site.
“I don’t want to come out as disrespectful or bashing anyone. But I also want people to understand that it wasn’t an easy task,” she added. “I had to work hard for things that are frequently granted to the men I worked with.

Ripa said her initial offer came with caution and took over for former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford.
She referred to Philbin as her boss, saying, “They want you to know who your boss is.” It felt bad since it was so foreboding.
She recalled that when she first started, the show told her not to “bring an entourage” to the set.
“I had my hair and makeup done. People showing up with it on a televised show was not unusual. Philbin greeted Ripa and executive producer Michael Gelman before taking the stage, stating, “Uh-oh Gelman, it’s got an entourage.”
I felt awful, she admitted. “I think he was trying to be hilarious, but it also felt like a pile-on. Although I realize that he probably didn’t want a co-host, the network wanted me to be the co-host and I didn’t feel I should pass up the chance. It wasn’t fair to him, in my opinion. However, it was also unfair to me.
Ripa also spends time remembering Philbin, who passed away in July 2020 at the age of 88, with nostalgia.
I’d be content if I could improve by a tenth of that, she added. “It involves taking the audience along for the ride while keeping in mind that you are always the punchline. I did and still do love him.
