Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, would not be making the trip to Balmoral to be with the family after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.
According to the BBC, royal reporter Omid Scobie confirmed her absence on Twitter, saying that Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, also would not be present since she was taking care of her three children in Windsor.
Towards the end of 2021, Markle’s attorney Jenny Afia defended her client against claims that she had bullied Kensington Palace employees. Markle also tried to patch fences with her estranged father by writing a letter.
It was speculated that Markle did not initially travel with the family upon the death of the Queen due to her penchant for controversy, which had strained her relationships with family members like Prince William and Prince Charles, as well as her appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” with a performance that one royal author said, “embarrassed the royal family.”
