Joseph Antonio Cartagena is Fat Joe’s true name. in New York City’s South Bronx area on August 19, 1970. People in Cartagena come from Cuba and Puerto Rico. Joseph’s brother exposed him to Hip-Hop music when he was just a kid.
Career
Cartagena joined the Diggin’ in the Crates Crew in 1992 under the alias “Fat Joe da Gangster” (D.I.T.C). As a result of these collaborations, he was able to create a network of contacts that he would eventually employ to build his record company. After signing with Relativity Records, he released his first album in 1993.
Fat Joe’s debut solo album, Represent, featured the popular single “Flow Joe.” In addition to launching Fat Joe’s career, the song climbed to the top of the Rap Charts. His second album, Jealous One’s Envy, was released in 1995.
Fat Joe’s success was bolstered by the success of “Envy” on the charts. When he stumbled across LL Cool J in the recording studio, things became much more interesting. To record “I Shot Ya,” he was brought into the studio, where he later participated in the music video.

Meanwhile, Fat Joe began collaborating with a new artist named Big Pun, whom he had discovered on his own. He released his third album Don Cartegena in 1998 and worked with artists including Nas, Diddy, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
“Bet Your Man Can’t Triz” and “Bet Your Man Can’t Triz” were both big hits. Terror Squad, a new group formed by Big Pun, Cuban Link, Prospect, and others, was also introduced on this album. The new record label Terror Squad was the name of Fat Joe’s new company, which marketed many different acts.
In order to produce Jealous Ones Still Envy, Fat Joe enlisted the help of more well-known musicians. Ashanti, Ja Rule, and Ludacris all appear on the Irv Gotti-produced album. While “We Thuggin‘” was the album’s biggest hit, “What’s Luv” utterly eclipsed it.
Ashanti and Ja Rule were featured on Fat Joe’s biggest hit, which has gone on to become one of the most timeless and memorable songs of the early 2000s. As a result, this album was Fat Joe’s most successful to date – even surpassing Loyal in 2002. It took a while, but Jealous Ones Still Envy was eventually awarded platinum status.
50 Cent Feud
True Story, the band’s final album, came out in 2004. “Lean Back,” a collaboration with Remy Ma, was a big smash on the album. For three weeks, the song held the number one slot on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of Fat Joe’s most popular singles ever.
It was in 2005 that Fat Joe and 50 Cent started their long-running dispute. Fat Joe and 50 Cent had a falling out over the latter’s association with Ja Rule. Diss tracks were included in Fat Joe’s sixth album All or Nothing, which he released in 2010. R. Kelly, Eminem, and Remy Ma were also on the album.
Fat Joe’s battle with 50 Cent soon got out of hand, and he went on the attack, calling 50 Cent a coward and a loser in the streets. MTV Video Music Awards 2005 saw Fat Joe trash 50 Cent while on stage, resulting in the latter jumping on stage and shouting obscenities. After a brief commercial break, the awards show resumed.
His seventh album, Me, Myself & I, was produced by Lil Wayne. Grammy-nominated “Make It Rain” was the result of this. During this time, the feud between 50 Cent and Fat Joe was still going strong. 50 Cent ridiculed Fat Joe’s new album, The Elephant in the Room, after it was released, stating that his mixtape had sold more copies and that he had “finished” Fat Joe’s career on his own.
Fat Joe collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians throughout the next few years, releasing albums like J.O.S.E. 2 and The Darkside Vol. 1.
To mark the end of his career, Fat Joe declared that he will release two more Darkside mixtapes and then retire. He collaborated with artists like Cool and Dre, Ludacris, ASAP Rocky, and Wiz Khalifa over the next few years to release music.
