Personal Life
At the end of September 2004, Cheryl Tweedy, a member of Girls Aloud, and Cole began dating; they married on July 15, 2006, in Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire. After reports surfaced that Cole had an extramarital affair with three different women at the beginning of 2008, the couple was on the verge of divorce.
He, on the other hand, denied the charges and the pair remained together as a result. The couple announced their separation on February 23rd, 2010, after new charges of infidelity surfaced. Cheryl filed for divorce three months after the announcement. On the 3rd of September of last year, they filed for divorce. Cole and Sharon Canu, an Italian model, have two children together: a son (born in 2016) and a daughter (born in 2018).
Following the publication of “gay orgy” claims in the News of the World and The Sun newspapers in 2006, Cole sued both publications for libel. The accusations were retracted by both papers. For his autobiography My Defense, Cole sold 4,000 copies in the first six weeks of its release. A former teammate of Cole, Jens Lehmann, chastised him for penning an autobiography at the age of 25 and called for his resignation.
Cole has run into trouble with the law on a handful of occasions. When he was arrested outside a nightclub in South Kensington on March 4, 2009, he was accused of shooting at a police officer. Before he was released, he was escorted to a police station and issued an £80 fine. Convicted of a speeding offense on November 17, 2009, Cole was sentenced to four months in prison on January 4, 2010.
On a residential section of the A3 road in Kingston upon Thames, he was caught going 104 mph in a 50 mph zone. To counter the charge, his defense contended that the police speed gun was defective in Kingston Magistrates’ Court while he was not there. His actions were also justified because Cole was trying to get away from the paparazzi, Cole stated. He was sentenced to a four-month driving ban and fined $1000 on January 29.
Tom Cowan, a 21-year-old Chelsea work-study sports science student, was fatally shot by Cole on February 27, 2011, at the club’s Cobham Training Centre, where he was apparently ignorant that the air gun was loaded. Colby apologized to Cowan and discussed the situation with Chelsea officials in a formal manner.
