Fans of Scream have their beloved franchise back after a protracted absence, and it’s arguably better than ever.
Critics have praised both the films from 2022 and the sixth installment from this year, which has given the venerable series new vitality thanks to a new creative team and cast.
Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) are firmly established by the conclusion of Scream VI as the franchise’s future, and many people are now demanding for additional stories starring the sisters and their fellow survivors.
That would, of course, mostly depend on how well the movie does at the box office, as its $35 million budget is rather high for a horror movie but still substantially less than a superhero blockbuster.
Will there be a Scream 7?
Scream 7 has not yet received any formal confirmation from Paramount, but directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who worked on both the 2022 movie and this most recent installment, are eager to learn more.
About the next films, Bettinelli-Olpin commented, “We hope” (via Deadline). “We want to spend the rest of our lives watching Scream movies, whether we’re involved or not.”
According to reports, Gillett concurred that the franchise is intended to go on and said, “We’re so glad it’s back.”
With the two episodes that have been released thus far, the team, whose past works include the horror-thriller Ready or Not, has undoubtedly won over even the most ardent fans.
Let’s hope that, if the chance presents itself, they will be persuaded to come back for more.
Scream 7 potential release date
Scream VI’s box office performance will undoubtedly be keenly monitored by Paramount Pictures, and whether it makes a good profit will likely determine the franchise’s destiny.
If Paramount decides to move forward with a seventh Scream film, it might be released in theatres but not very soon.
Although Scream VI and 2022’s soft reboot (or “requel”) are only separated by around a year, a comparable production schedule might result in the movie’s release in time for the following spring of 2024.
Scream 7 cast: Who all are set to return?
Even though Ghostface went on the attack, our “core four” were able to escape unhurt, despite Chad receiving many stabbings.
Thus, we can expect Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown to all return as Sam, Tara, Chad, and Mindy, respectively. Perhaps Josh Segarra, who will play Sam’s new lover Danny, will join them.
Legacy figures like Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, should return since she survived her confrontation with Ghostface. The same is true of Kirby Reed, played by Hayden Panettiere, who is currently a Ghostface-focused FBI agent.
Also, it’s expected that Roger L. Jackson will return to voice Ghostface, and Skeet Ulrich will make another appearance as Billy Loomis, who continues to stalk Sam from the afterlife with lethal advice.
Whether Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott is less certain. Gale claims that she took Mark and the kids away and deserved her “happy ending” in Scream 6, which is how her disappearance is explained.
The legendary Final Girl from Scream may have seen her last, but maybe someone can convince her to return for one last Ghostface fight.
Scream 7 Plot
Predictably, Scream 6 is a stand-alone thriller with little setup for a subsequent film, while having a post-credit sequence.
Sam agrees to let Tara live her life more independently, and Tara promises she will go to therapy to deal with the trauma caused by the Ghostfaces (there are three this time). Sam and Tara kill the Ghostfaces (there are three this time).
The only thing we can really predict about Scream 7 is that Ghostface will return and will be pursuing Sam and Tara.
