It’s official, Flag Means Death fans: Season 2 is on the way!
The David Jenkins-created pirate comedy was revived by HBO Max on June 1, months after Season 1 ended with a devastating finale that separated Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) from Blackbeard (David Harbour) (Taika Waititi). There would have been rioting if we hadn’t had Season 2. Yes, riots, I say.
At the end of last year, the 10-episode run of Our Flag Means Death garnered a lot of attention for the show’s quirky comedy and realistic representation of homosexual relationships. For months, the hashtag #renewOFMD was trending on Twitter, and now you know the reason.
As far as I was concerned, Our Flag Means Death has already been renewed for Season 2. What more could a streaming service ask for than a highly acclaimed hit with a dedicated following?
The announcement of the renewal of HBO Max’s queer pirate show was made just in time for the start of Pride Month.
Sure, they’ve had months to announce a Season 2, but rainbow capitalism will be rainbow capitalism.
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Release Date
The historical story of 18th-century pirate Stede Bonnet is the inspiration for the film Our Flag Means Death.
In order to become a pirate, the wealthy Barbados planter had to leave behind his family and luxurious life. In spite of his lack of experience as a pirate, he formed a friendship with Blackbeard Edward Teach. Our Flag Means Death Season 2 is expected as released on 25 November 2022.
It’s evident that the show takes creative liberties when it comes to portraying the characters. The show turned out to be a hilariously original comedy with a lovely love story thrown in for good measure.

Fans Demand OFMD‘s Renewal
The show’s admirers began to predict that HBO would announce the show’s renewal at a moment that coincided with Pride month. They had their own charming stories to tell, too, and many of them revolved around a cast of colorful LGBTQ darlings, as well.
Yes, there was speculation that the announcement had been put on hold. The daily outpouring of love for the show didn’t stop them, however.
For the second season of the show, a dedicated Twitter account was set up to provide daily updates. However, season 1 left our characters and Stede’s crew in a sea of narrative possibilities.
Also, it’s in the middle of the ocean. figuratively.

Cast & Crew React and Celebrate
Of course, the show’s fans have also taken to social media to express their appreciation for the performers and creators who made it possible.
Celebrating with fans, David Jenkins and other members of the cast and crew shared their thoughts on Twitter today.
This is Stede Bonnet, Rhys Darby’s brilliant portrayal of whom the show revolves around. His honest reaction to the news was lovely since he is the cutest blueberry muffin you’ll ever come across.
Nathan Ford, who definitely has some of the best facial expressions and one-liners, just used one of Lucius’ best lines to answer. Perhaps the actors and crew were aware of it before today’s announcement?
As it turns out, Jim, the breakout non-binary celebrity who is played by Vico Ortiz, also had a difficult time waiting for the official announcement. Science TikTok’s products were a great way for them to feel better.
