Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is getting a remake for the PlayStation 5 from developer Konami, some 20 years after its initial debut. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, announced during today’s PlayStation Showcase, appears to be a faithful remake of Hideo Kojima’s original game. (It’s “Delta” if you’re wondering.)
It was shown in a short CGI teaser trailer, with Cynthia Harrell singing the iconic theme tune as the camera panned around a tropical setting and landed on Snake.
The original voice actors, including David Hayter as Snake, will return for the remake, according to new details disclosed after the fact. Konami also stated that the game would include “unprecedented graphics and immersive sound.”
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Release Date
Konami also revealed Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 alongside the game itself. Metal Gear Solid and the first three games are included in the compilation. Platform availability is TBD as of the Fall 2023 release date.
After a long hiatus, the Metal Gear Solid series is finally coming back to modern systems with Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection.
Despite the remastering and subsequent release of the original Snake Eater in North America in 2004, the series has been on indefinite pause since Kojima’s documented split with Konami. Its most recent big release, Metal Gear Solid Survive, was met with a lukewarm reception upon its 2018 release.
In the first Snake Eater, a spy known only by his code name, Naked Snake, travels to the Soviet Union in a desperate search for his instructor, who has apparently deserted there. The game’s narrative, gameplay, and especially its memorable boss fights gained widespread acclaim. Bluepoint and Virtuous have been named as possible studios overseeing the production of the remake, but this is the first time it has been publicly demonstrated.
Although Yoji Shinkawa, whose artwork greatly contributed to the success of Metal Gear Solid, has now gone on to other projects, Hideo Kojima has kept him close by. However, the original production team did issue an unsigned comment through the press release, so at least some of them are involved in the remake.
May I Pre-Order the Re-Release of Metal Gear Solid 3?
There is no way to reserve a copy of the remade Metal Gear Solid 3 at this time. It’s possible that Konami will issue multiple versions, as this will be a massive release for many of us nostalgic old idiots.
The premium version, which was exclusively available in Japan, was packaged beautifully and was much sought for. The game itself, together with a 144:1 scale model of the Shagohod, a storybook, an artbook, and a bonus DVD, were included.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Konami went all out for some fan service, and as soon as we find out more, we’ll let you know.
Which Gaming Systems and Platforms Support the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake?
Metal Gear Solid 3 will be remade for the PS5, Xbox One S|X, and PC. There has been no announcement regarding the game’s engine, although we do know that Unreal Engine 5 is being used for the remake of Silent Hill 2. This would explain why it’s a current-generation exclusive game.
Recent changes to Unreal Engine 5 make it an ideal fit for the game’s verdant jungle settings. The revised UE5 technology, revealed at a recent developer event, was truly fantastic, despite the fact that technologies like Nanite previously didn’t work for vegetation.
As a result, we probably won’t see it on older platforms and definitely won’t see it on the Switch.
Does Anyone Know Where I Can Find a Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Teaser?
We have included a trailer for the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 below.
In the opening scene, a line of marching ants approaches a lifeless frog, which is snatched up by The End’s (a boss from Metal Gear Solid 3) parrot before taking off into the sky.
Those of you with eagle eyes may have observed the Shagohod being carried into the air by a fleet of helicopters, a telltale sign that this is in fact a recreation of the original Metal Gear Solid 3.
The parrot swoops down from the trees and lands on a branch in the middle of a pond, where it is immediately attacked by a giant snake, which then engages in a fierce battle with a crocodile.
This ascent up the food chain serves as a metaphor for Snake as he fights his way through the plot and encounters progressively more formidable enemies.
The camera pans across the river and eventually focuses on our hero, who has been hiding in the shadows the whole while. The camera pans up as the orchestra begins to play the theme from Metal Gear Solid 3, and a triangular opening in the trees reveals the title: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
