Sonya Eddy was born on June 17, 1967, in Concord, California. She had done her major in theatre and dance at the University of California. Davis and got a B.A. degree in 1992.

Her most famous role was Epiphany Johnson, a no-nonsense nurse in an ABCs day shift series “General Hospital”. She has been in the show since 2006 and has appeared in more than 500+ episodes and was working until November 2022.

The cause of her death is suspected to be a post-surgery infection. The actress had scheduled surgery on December 9 and was released from the hospital on December 11.
But within two to three days after discharge, the actress started feeling uneasy and fell ill. She was again admitted on December 15 and after check-ups, it was said by the doctors that an infection has been developed in her and is uncontainable.
By December 19 morning, she was placed on life support and was in a critical situation but unfortunately died later that night.

Actress Octavia Spencer, a close friend of Sonya Eddy was the first to share the news of Eddy’s passing on her Instagram.
“My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel.” and share her “legions” fans will always be with her and miss her.
She further shared that her thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans.
As soon as the news broke out, the entertainment industry was shocked and within no time, the internet got flooded with messages and tweets started trending. Her fans and celebrities from around the globe shared their condolences via social media.
Actor Kathleen Gati took to Instagram and shared a heartfelt message following Eddy’s death.
She wrote, “I am in shock and disbelief and heartbroken to hear about the passing of my friend #sonyaeddy. We shared many good laughs and I always enjoyed working with her. Condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and fans. She will be missed. May she R.I.P.”
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini also took to Instagram and expressed their sadness on losing a such gem of a person.
“I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible @sonyaeddy. I truly loved her, not only as an actress but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set,”
