Hawkins didn’t practice on Friday and wasn’t anticipated to participate completely in UConn’s shootaround on Saturday, but he dressed for the Miami game and scored 13 points. During a post-game interview, coach Dan Hurley acknowledged that Hawkins wasn’t at full strength.

When asked if there was any doubt about his ability to play against San Diego State in the national championship game, Hawkins promptly allayed any doubts. No need to worry about Monday, I feel fine, he assured reporters.

This season, Hawkins has been one of the most important offensive contributors for UConn, and earlier in the tournament, he recorded back-to-back performances of at least 20 points.
